Reputable meditation techniques/sources?
I’m very interested in meditation but there are so many different ways out there. Some say that you must be at peace and quiet, not make any noise or movement or even pay attention to your breathing and to be comfortable, meanwhile others say you should chant something or “aum”, and be completely conscious of your breathing etc…
It’s frustrating and I don’t know where to begin. I really want to work on opening my third eye, and i want to know which type of meditation is best for this. I’ve done research upon research and maybe someone out there has gone through something similar and would like to share.
All help is appreciated.

The first thing: “really wanting to work on your third eye” is a wrong-headed way to approach meditation.
Meditation is all about coming to the here and now, and heartfully being present to what is. Thoughts, feelings, physical sensations. You simply watch, and don’t strive for anything. You don’t change anything, don’t fix anything, don’t try to stop the mind, don’t try to open your third eye or create “spiritual experiences.” You simply watch. Bring awareness to what is in this moment.
The unconscious (that is, the negative energy inside of all of us) takes all kinds of forms: lust, greed, anger, ambition, and so forth. Greed, for example, may be directed at wealth, or power, or experiences of various kinds. The meditator is interested in noticing his greed, and bringing heartful awareness to it. Over time, by itself (not because YOU do it) the greed will begin to dissolve in the presence of awareness, and the energy will be transformed into compassion and generosity.
