Does meditation really matter when praying the rosary?
I had just started praying the rosary on a Sunday, but I accidentally prayed while meditating on the joyful mysteries (Monday/Saturday meditations) instead of the glorious mysteries (usually for Sundays/Wednesdays, which was the day I prayed).
Oops… Is that bad? Does it really matter which of the mysteries I meditate on while praying throughout the week? Is meditation really a necessity while praying the rosary?
Please help me (with no rude answers, please).
Thank you! =)
Awesome…you are praying the Rosary!
The Rosary is a private devotion and the mysteries to be prayed on a particular day are only a suggestion. So you have done nothing wrong in praying the Joyful mysteries on the “wrong” day.
Meditation is the soul of the Rosary. It gives it it’s life. It is a huge and crucial part of the power of the Rosary. For more on this you may find a gaggle of meditations using google. But I like the ones that are provided for at http://www.how-to-pray-the-rosary-everyday.com/meditations-on-the-rosary.html useful. It tells all about the importance of meditation and has tons of meditations on each mystery (all twenty) to get you going. Check it out. It is a great resource.
You can also write your own meditations that you would like to think about while praying the Rosary. Even keep your own journal, breaking down each Rosary mystery with tabs, and that way you’ll be able to refer to it every time you pray your Rosary.
Hope you find this helpful.
