weight loss club?
I am a middle school teacher, and I have noticed that MANY of my students are “over weight.” That is to say, that they can stand to loss some weight. I know that physical acitivity drops amongst middle school students everywhere, but when I ask my students what they do to workout, their answer is “nothing.” Most of my students know that I have recently lost about 40 pounds and that I went from being “thick” to “skinny”– I tell them that I have achieved my weight loss my diet and exercise. My question to ya’ll is 1- do you think that a club to help teach about a healthier life style (we simply don’t have time during the day) is appropriate and 2- What should the lessons be about? (specifically) 3- Do you think any kids would participate? (if you are 10-15, you input is greatly appreciated!) 4- What is a name that isn’t offensive? The club wouldn’t be just about weight loss but healthier living. (i.e. diet, exercise, Stress Reduction, support, etc.) THANK YOU!!
1. A club would be an excellent idea to help kids to lose weight. Many kids, especially in that phase of their lives, are too shame or lazy to figure out their own way to lose weight, or are too embarrassed to ask their parents or peers for help. A club like this is more than appropriate.
2. I would recommend helping the kids develop an exercise plan and diet plan; as well as building awareness about what the consequences could be if they don’t incorporate a healthy lifestyle now.
3. With a bit of advertisement, yes I don’t see why some won’t. I know that I myself found it hard to accept what was wrong with my in my middle school days out of fear of being judged. If this club can be supportive and accepting of everyone, I see it as a great place for teens to find common ground and support of people who are going in the same direction as them.
4. I was never great with names, but I would imagine the name to be straightforward and serious.
Hope that helps. If it has any impact on my answers, I am 18.
