Can roman catholics learn and so reiki?
I am RC and have become very interested in reiki as a way of connecting to God. I read that there are quotes in the bible about the laying on of hands, and this being a gift that God has given people to heal and cope with life better.
I have since read that some Christians think reiki is the devil’s work. I don’t understand why meditating on God’s spirit’s energy is wrong and touching someone to pass on thtat energy is wrong.
I also read that the christianity thinks that the consideration of chakras is satan’s work too. I don’t understand why since the bible talks of each and every one of us having a soul so is it not possible that our soul has energy centres that connect to our major organs?
I don’t understand how there can be so many different relkigions who think that other religions are wrong – if we all respected and loved oneanother then any religion by another name would be the same??
PLUS reiki isn’t even a religion, it is a Stress Reduction and healing model.
As a Roman Catholic I can say that I do believe that the catechism has this to say:
“799: Whether extraordinary or simple and humble, charisms are graces of the Holy Spirit which directly or indirectly benefit the Church, ordered as they are to her building up, to the good of men, and to the needs of the world.
800: Charisms are to be accepted with gratitude by the person who receives them and by all members of the Church as well. They are a wonderfully rich grace for the apostolic vitality and for the holiness of the entire Body of Christ, provided they really are genuine gifts of the Holy Spirit and are used in full conformity with authentic promptings of this same Spirit, that is, in keeping with charity, the true measure of all charisms.
801: It is in this sense that discernment of charisms is always necessary. No charism is exempt from being referred and submitted to the Church’s shepherds. ‘Their office [is] not indeed to extinguish the Spirit, but to test all things and hold fast to what is good,’ so that all the diverse and complementary charisms work together ‘for the common good.’”
So basically you should be covered, so long as you believe that God is working through the event and you pray before and after that he blesses the experience and watches over you.
